Strand At Night 1-12-09
Note from the Artist
I wanted to make a photograph that was somehow modern in it's execution and yet have it retain a Hopper-esque sensibility throughout. Maybe it was something about the twilight last night that suggested such an approach. For me the interior of the building holds much more importance than the outside in this image, as the quality of the light inside for me truly sets the tone of this picture. The figures in the foreground serve as a bridge to the interior of books, while forcing the viewer to join them in this voyeuristic, pedestrian point of view.
