Luggage
Note from the Artist
I have been trying to take some pics like Mark Cohen's in "Grim Street." Close-up in manual focus set at about three feet, a little bit of flash, and shot from the hip. If lucky you can get some interesting human detail, often a hand, but in this case I lucked out (I like to think) with the three masses of black, the white Strand dollar rack dividing the frame down the middle, and then the dark red paint at the rear, which is a color I associate with Saul Leiter.
Not perhaps the Strand's ideal customer, but luckily his head is cropped out: I wouldn't have thought to ask him to sign a waiver form, even if I had one. I wonder if the luggage contained books to sell
